Evening of Champions 2009

Tuesday, May 5th was the 2009 "Evening of Champions" All-Sports Banquet. Our team was well-represented. Congratulations to all the 2008-2009 Simmons Swimming & Diving team members for all of your accomplishments throughout the season.

It was wonderful to hear Athletic Director, Ali Kantor, highlight all the great service, charity and community-oriented events that the Simmons athletes took part in, including the Ted Mullin "Hour of Power" that the swimmers (AND DIVERS) participated in this past November.

It was also fantastic to see the swimmers and divers among the many athletes acknowledged for academic excellence. The Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, Diane Raymond, proudly announced each member of our team in recognition of the College Swim Coaches Association's Academic All-American Honors awarded to the team for holding a cumulative GPA over 3.0.

Congratulations to Julia Morrison '09 for receiving the Swimming & Diving Blue & Gold Award. Well-deserved, Julia.

Congratulations to Keri-Ann Arsenault '09 for receiving one of the most cherished recognitions, the Athlete of the Year Award. This award is presented each year to the Simmons student-athlete with the most outstanding athletic achievement. No surprise to hear Keri-Ann's name announced for this one.

Lastly, Brittany Torelli did a fantastic job as the evening's Emcee. Way to go!

I am so proud of this team. It was fun to see everyone one last time before the end of the semester!

Good luck with everything as you wrap up exams and head out for the summer.

Off-Season Workouts

Swimmers... hopefully you're planning to spend a little time in the pool this summer. As most of you know, my philosophy is not to overload the team with off-season workouts, running the risk of having people return to Simmons burned out. Instead, I encourage short pool workouts a couple times a week with creative cross training.

Every couple weeks I plan to post some new swim workouts (between 3000-4000 yards, something you will be able to complete within an hour or so) if you are looking for inspiration. Otherwise, have fun lifting weights, going on hikes, kayaking, running, spinning - or whatever else keeps you active throughout the summer.
Hi everyone! It was good to see you last night! I hope you all have a great end to your semester and a great summer! Keep in touch! Congrats to Keri-Anne and Julia on their well deserved awards!!!!
